Magic City Books is proud to welcome Rilla Askew, author of the American Book Award-winning novel about the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, Fire in Beulah, for an in-store event celebrating her new collection of stories, The Hungry and the Haunted on Monday September 23. This free event will start at 7:00 pm in the Algonquin Room at Magic City Books and Rilla will be joined in conversation by Liz Blood.
“Rilla Askew—a storyteller of truth and grace in all she writes, whether novel or essay—moves us to compassionately consider Oklahoma in all its faces. Oklahoma’s is a rough story of theft and coercion, of beauty and tenderness.” —Joy Harjo
Set primarily in eastern Oklahoma during the 1970s, the stories in The Hungry and the Haunted are about young women navigating relationships, social change, and the power of place during increasingly precarious times.
The Hungry and the Haunted will be published by Belle Pointe Press on September 17. You can pre-order a copy at Magic City Books or online at: https://magiccitybooks.square.site/product/the-hungry-and-the-haunted/2393.
